Services / Engagement Models

I offer a small number of well-defined engagement types. The goal is flexibility without ambiguity.

Fractional CTO / CIO / CISO

Ongoing senior technical leadership for organizations that need experienced judgment but not a full-time executive.

Typical focus areas:

  • technical strategy and roadmap alignment
  • executive-level decision support
  • vendor and architecture evaluation
  • risk identification and mitigation
  • escalation handling for high-impact issues

This model works best as a monthly retainer.

Strategic Technical Advisor

Focused advisory support during periods of change, uncertainty, or reassessment.

Often used for:

  • stalled or failing initiatives
  • leadership transitions
  • architecture or platform reevaluation
  • AI adoption strategy (without hype)

Engagements may be short-term or ongoing, depending on need.

Software Architecture

Targeted involvement in system design and technical structure when existing approaches are limiting progress.

This may include:

  • architecture review and redesign
  • identifying structural sources of instability or friction
  • simplifying overly complex systems
  • aligning design with real-world constraints

This work is advisory and collaborative, not implementation-heavy.

AI Subject Matter Expert

Practical guidance on AI capabilities, limits, and risks — grounded in current reality, not speculation.

Focus areas include:

  • evaluating where AI genuinely adds value
  • avoiding misuse of AI as a substitute for clarity
  • integrating AI tools without destabilizing teams
  • setting guardrails around quality, security, and expectations

I treat AI as a force multiplier for good judgment, not a replacement for it.

Short-Term / Ad-Hoc Engagements

Occasionally, I step in to help resolve acute problems:

  • persistent bugs no one has been able to fix
  • decision deadlocks
  • failing integrations or launches

These engagements are deliberately limited in scope and duration.

Pricing

Engagements typically fall into one of the following structures:

  • Monthly retainer for fractional leadership (bi-weekly and weekly billing options exist)
  • Hourly for steady but uneven work
  • Short-term / ad-hoc for time-boxed intervention

Details are discussed after an initial conversation, once scope and expectations are clear.
